Fair Trade Boston coalition member Ruixi Hao is currently traveling in the Dominican Republic with our good friends from Fair Trade Towns. Ruixi will join 16 organizers from Fair Trade Towns across the country, including Chicago-IL, Houston-TX, and Orlando-FL, to get a first-hand perspective of what Fair Trade means to the farmers and workers who are producing Fair Trade products such as coffee, cocoa and bananas. Ruixi will be sharing reflections and photos from her travels on our website! Here is her post from her first day in the Dominican Republic:

Here we are driving to our hotel. Frankie, our tour guide and drive, is as welcoming as the warm weather.

We drove by some busy election campaigning in the capitol city, Santo Domingo.

We saw a demonstration of concrete brick making using natural local limestone.

Fair Trade Boston is a coalition of church groups, student leaders and ethically minded businesses working to alleviate global poverty and promote environmental sustainability by increasing the availability and use of Fair Trade products throughout Greater Boston.
